China’s first ＂village gas platoon＂ was held in Changtai, Fujian Province, where hundreds of teams from 15 provinces competed on the same stage.
People’s Daily Online, Zhangzhou, November 25th (Su Haisen) On November 25th, 2023, China Changtai Country Volleyball Open (hereinafter referred to as "Village Volleyball") was held in Changtai District, Zhangzhou City, Fujian Province. This is the first "village gas platoon" in China. 910 people from 101 teams from 15 provinces including Beijing, Zhejiang and Guangdong participated in the competition.

Gas volleyball is a mass sport that integrates sports, leisure and entertainment. Compared with traditional volleyball, it has the characteristics of light weight, soft texture and easy control. Under the upsurge of national fitness, this sport, which is easy to play and use, has a high safety factor, and is both interesting and competitive, is deeply loved by sports fans of all ages. At the 13th National Games in 2017, balloon volleyball officially became a mass sports event.

The competition lasted for 3 days and will last until November 27th. There are 3 competition venues and 10 venues, which can accommodate up to 3,000 spectators. Set up four groups: young men’s group, young women’s group, middle-aged men’s group and middle-aged women’s group, arrange nearly 230 games, adopt the system of group round-robin preliminaries and cross-elimination finals, each group takes the top eight, and the winning team will receive double rewards of agricultural special products and bonuses.
In recent years, "village BA" and "village supermarket" have produced good effects of setting up a stage for sports, integrating cultural tourism with agriculture and singing opera economically. The first "village gas platoon" in China settled in Changtai District, aiming at promoting the development of grass-roots sports through sports events and achieving the effect of "boiling a city with a ball" and empowering rural revitalization through sports.

The performance of the opening ceremony on November 25th was mainly entertaining and mass, which organically integrated local folk customs with balloon volleyball. During the competition, the "Flower Zhangzhou" Carnival was held to display traditional special foods, special agricultural products and cultural and creative products full of Minnan cultural charm. With the mode of "sports+cultural tourism+agriculture", sports events, special agriculture and rural cultural tourism were closely combined to accelerate the promotion of agricultural efficiency, farmers’ income and rural prosperity.
Zhangzhou City is the home of China Women’s Volleyball Team and the "cradle of champions". Since the national training base was formally established in Zhangzhou City in 1973, China Women’s Volleyball Team has been training locally for 49 consecutive times. Influenced by the spirit of women’s volleyball, Zhangzhou vigorously develops mass sports activities, especially balloon volleyball, and creates another beautiful sports card after the "women’s volleyball family".

As the venue of this event, Changtai District has a broad mass base of balloon volleyball and a strong atmosphere of the event, with balloon volleyball fans accounting for more than 15% of the total population, forming a long-term development pattern and system of "small leagues in villages and towns and finals in the whole region". Since 2013, Changtai District Air Volleyball Team has won 121 trophies, including 33 national champion trophies. In March 2023, it won the championship of men’s middle-aged group, women’s middle-aged group and men’s youth group in the Super Cup National Air Volleyball League finals.
The tournament was directed by China Volleyball Association, co-sponsored by Fujian Provincial Sports Bureau, Fujian Provincial Department of Culture and Tourism, Fujian Rural Revitalization Research Association and Zhangzhou Municipal People’s Government, and co-hosted by Fujian Provincial Volleyball Association, Zhangzhou Municipal Sports Bureau, Zhangzhou Municipal Bureau of Culture and Tourism, Changtai District People’s Government and Zhangzhou Wenlv Kangyang Group Co., Ltd.
