The finless porpoises frequently appear in Zhenjiang section of the Yangtze River, and the ecological protection has achieved remarkable results

Recently, when law enforcement officers carried out a normal cruise in the Yangtze River Zhenjiang finless porpoise nature reserve, they found many finless porpoises playing in the river.

The Yangtze finless porpoise is a national first-class protected animal and an extremely endangered species in the world. After the extinction of the baiji, it became the last cetacean in the Yangtze River, with only about 1,000 surviving. As the only remaining mammal in the Yangtze River, her living condition is an important symbol of the health and stability of the Yangtze River life system. Zhenjiang section of the Yangtze River has been an excellent habitat for Yangtze finless porpoises since ancient times. At present, there are about 35 finless porpoises living all year round. With the implementation of the strategy of "jointly protecting and not developing" in the Yangtze River Economic Belt, the ecological environment of the Yangtze River has been continuously improved, and "mother and child dolphins" and finless porpoises have appeared in Zhenjiang Yangtze River Dolphin Nature Reserve, Wufeng Mountain waters in Zhenjiang section of the Yangtze River and Sanjiang Camp waters.

In recent years, Zhenjiang Maritime Safety Administration has thoroughly implemented the deployment requirements of Jiangsu Maritime Safety Administration and Zhenjiang Municipal Party Committee and Municipal Government, placed the protection of the ecological environment of the Yangtze River in an overwhelming position, and carried out a series of vivid practices of ecological protection of the Yangtze River. First, adhere to joint efforts and improve the ecological protection mechanism. In 2021, Zhenjiang was promoted to establish the Yangtze finless porpoise protection alliance, and 10 units in Zhenjiang jointly promoted the Yangtze finless porpoise protection work. In 2022, Zhenjiang will be promoted to issue long-term management measures for the prevention and control of ship pollution in ports, and a pollution control pattern for ships and ports with reasonable layout, smooth connection, efficient operation and strong supervision will be clearly established. Actively promote the implementation of the first local regulations on the coordinated protection of single-species watershed areas in the country in the town, and continuously improve the protection mechanism of unified leadership by the government, division of labor by departments, social participation and regional coordinated promotion. The second is to adhere to strict management and improve the effectiveness of on-site supervision. Innovative implementation will include the implementation of the "one hundred and two free services" requirements for ships and docks in the daily supervision and inspection work of the rapid response disposal center, strengthen the "124" special office to conduct unannounced visits, literacy and counterfeiting, and severely crack down on illegal activities such as direct discharge of domestic sewage and false reporting of hazardous chemicals. We will comprehensively deepen the working mechanism of "daily report" on hazard prevention work and "monthly notification" on pollution prevention data, and compact the main responsibilities of the terminal and maritime departments. Deepen the use of the credit supervision mechanism in the field of ship pollution prevention and control, solidify the "interview+rectification" model, further find out the base, control risks, and make up for shortcomings. The third is to adhere to green first and promote long-term treatment. Optimize and upgrade Liuwei Water Comprehensive Service Area,Actively build a online celebrity community on Liuwei River, efficiently test-run Gao Qiao Water Green Service Area, promote the formation of a cluster layout of service areas in Zhenjiang section of the Yangtze River, effectively change the supervision concept of ship pollution prevention and control, and take a good "new idea" of pollution prevention and control.
